SIL Accommodation

Are you an NDIS participant looking for Supported Independent Living accommodation on the Sunshine Coast? Ask us about our newest SIL house at Sippy Downs.

We can help you with your daily living tasks so you develop the skills necessary to live independently.

What is SIL?

Supported Independent Living is the disability support services required to help with and/or supervise daily living tasks in a shared home group environment or individually at home, with the goal to enable the individual to develop skills to live as independently as possible.

SIL Does Not Cover...

Cost of support does NOT include rent, board or lodging, day to day usual living expenses such as food and activities, personal care supports, when the person is hospitalised, or items covered in other sections of NDIS price guide (e.g. assistive technology or transport costs).

The NDIS will not fund day to day living costs that are that are unrelated to a participant’s disability needs, or Take responsibility for the housing, (infrastructure), needs of participants.

Benefits of Shared Living

We offer quality, comfortable SIL homes in great locations on the Sunshine Coast that provide support for individual needs. There is a sense of security and peace of mind knowing that our dedicated staff provide 24/7 assistance, so when you need us, we are there.

A shared living arrangement with other adults is a great opportunity to build friendships and strengthen social skills and become an active member in the community.

Sil facilitates your confidence by enabling you to develop and learn independence skills for day to day living. In a shared home environment, you are encouraged to choose what you want to do, which provides a sense of freedom and independence while still receiving supports to reach your goals.

We understand that you would like a choice with your living arrangements, e.g who you live with/carers and more. At Indecare we listen carefully to your likes and preferences so that you begin your life comfortable in your new home.

SIL vs SDA

Supported Independent Living vs Specialist Disability Accommodation

Specialist Disability Accommodation(SDA) refers to housing that is funded under the NDIS for those that have an significant functional impairment and require very high support needs. SDA relates to the building of a house to support these needs. SDA funding is provided to encourage investment so that the high support housing will be built. The government has stated that NDIS SDA funding will only ever be provided to a very small percent of participants in the NDIS.(approximately 6%)

While SDA refers to the design and building of specialist housing, Supported Independent Living (SIL) relates to the supports that are provided to help you live in the house. At this stage, Indecare does not offer SDA properties. If you do have interest in an NDIS SDA property, please contact us and let us know your thoughts. We are happy to consider your needs and assess if we are able to provide this option.

For further information on SDA, please visit the NDIS website Specialist Disability Accommodation page.
